General Meetings

MONTHLY GENERAL MEETINGS

Redding Newcomers meet the 4th Wednesday of each month from September through May. November and December meetings are held on a different day due to holiday schedules.

We have three very special General Meetings. In December we hold our annual Christmas Charities Event at our regular meeting site and it's always lots of fun. You're sure to find something you just can't live without or perhaps you'll get a little early holiday shopping done. April is the perfect time for our annual Fashion Show and Luncheon which is held at a different location. Our Summer Celebration is also held at a different location, some time during the month of June.

Social time at our monthly General Meeting starts at 9:30 AM. The meeting begins at 10:00 AM and is usually over by 12:00 PM.

Our guest speakers are scheduled at the beginning of the meeting and stay during our coffee break to answer additional questions that our members may have. After the break, we conduct club business, learn about new Activities and Special Events that are planned, and participate in a Mystery Prize drawing.

Coffee, iced tea, and water are served at the General Meeting. A buffet lunch is available after the meeting at a reasonable price for those who are interested. Lunch tickets are sold before the meeting begins. Reservations are not required.

Meetings are held at the Redding Elks Lodge, 250 Elk Street, Redding, CA 96003. map it. There is plenty of parking in front of the Lodge.

General Meeting ~ Wednesday, September 22, 2010 ~ 10:00 am We're starting off our new year with Dr. Doug McConnell, Director of Cardiac Surgery at Shasta Regional Medical Center. Dr. McConnell has over 28 years experience in Cardiac and Thoracic surgery. He and Bonnie, a member of Newcomers, moved to the northstate in 2006. Newcomers Picnic ~ Anderson River Park Sunday, September 26, 2010 ~ 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Bring a dish to share. We'll BBQ hamburgers and supply plenty of water. You're on your own for any other drinks you may want (no glass containers in the park please.) Bring a chair with you to set under a tree and enjoy good company, good food, and watch or participate in the games. Bocce ball and washer toss are the two most popular. Will there be Wahdingers again? "ONE CAN AT A TIME" DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Our food donations made a huge difference last year --- we would like to continue helping hungry children and families that depend on a bit of help from food pantries at the end of the month. If you wish to participate, please bring a can of food to the General Meeting. Brown paper bags and plastic grocery bags are also needed. We donated to Bridges to the Salvation Army in March - they were very appreciative as their pantry was almost bare. Our May and June food drives will be dedicated to helping children in the Redding School District Summer School Program. All kinds of food are needed - many of these children come from extremely poor families and food will be sent home with them after school. Don't forget the plastic bags and paper bags --- we need those too!
